Traveling Light

Packing for a festival, a long weekend or a holiday in a far flung destination? Here are my expert tips for traveling light - and arriving fresh-faced.

I'm an expert in traveling light. As a make-up artist, I need to keep my kit light, especially if I'm on location, and the most successful way to do this is to carry multi-tasking skincare and make-up products that do double, if not triple duty.

Travel with Tri-Balm: It goes without saying that Tri-Balm, £46, is the ultimate multi-tasking skincare product. I also designed it to be the ideal travel companion, so it's perfectly sized for the plane, and as it's a balm, it won't spill. A cleanser, exfoliator and moisturiser in one, it's also a fantastic hydrating post and inflight intensive masque. When you're on holiday, keep it in the fridge – the perfect cooling skin treat after a day in the sun.

Blush and go: I don't leave home without Stila's Convertible Colour, £16 – it's been one of my favourite beauty staples since it launched. With a gorgeous creamy texture, it adds a glow to cheeks and is the perfect pop of colour for lips. Available in 13 shades, there's one for every skin tone from the fairest to the darkest. And the compact is so neat you can even slip it into the pocket of your jeans.

Double Cream: BB Cream is a staple in my kit and a great holiday must-have. One of my favourites is Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue, £28, a gel formula which gives a dewy finish, whilst evening out skin tone and protecting from the sun with an SPF 30. Available in 16 shades.

Glow Easy: Benefit Hoola Zero Tanlines Bronzer, £25.50, is perfect for adding a top-to-toe glow, especially during the first few days of a holiday. It has a streak-free, easy-peasy-to-apply formulation that washes off at the end of the day. For a protective bronzer-meets-sunscreen, mix it with your SPF.

All-Over Oil: For all-over moisturising – hair included – I travel with Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour All Over Miracle Oil, £29. Totally versatile, Miracle Oil adds a sheen to skin, and calms redness - thanks to ultra-soothing Tsubaki Oil. It can also be used to tame frizz and restore a glossy shine to parched summer hair.

If you take your Tri-Balm on holiday (or on any journey away from home), do share a photo and tag us (@fprescottskin), we’d love to see your #Shelfies !
